After walking into a “fashion forward” clothing store, I noticed the famous “street wear” brand “Crooks and Castles” were selling a T-Shirt with Malcom X’s image on it. They also used one of his famous quotes “By any means necessary” within their “fashionable” design.

NOW, given the self proclaimed image of this famous “street wears’” “brand” (Taken from their facebook bio) “We at Crooks & Castles have always routed for the villain whether it be in a movie, a comic book, a novel, a rap song or everyday life.” and going even further to say, “Crooks & Castles”! The concept was easy. “Crooks”, criminals, pimps, hustlers, thieves, etc. And “Castles” those who got rich by becoming a crook.”- I asked myself “WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH MALCOM X????”-

If any genre of music, style of clothing, or force for counter culture has a responsibility to the image and message of African American hero’s -it’s Hip Hop. “Street Wear” brands like “Crooks and Castles” tie themselves to Hip Hop’s built in fan base using the image, culture, and music to support its branding/finances. If your going to do so- do it with some respect. Calling Malcom X a “Crook” and twisting his statement “By any means necessary” to support a “villains” way of securing wealth or a “Castle” is an attempt at re-writing history for the soul purpose of profit…thanks “Christopher Columbus”.

This song is called “Books and Pastels” and it’s not going to change the world. It’s not going to put a single dent in “Crooks and Castles” following. Why? Because guns on a T- Shirt are COOL! As stated the “Books and Pastels” Tee is a collaboration between myself and LaFamille. LaFamille is an independent clothing company out of France. Each shirt is screened separately by hand so every shirt has its own character. This is not a machine pressed factory print. It’s personal and independent just how we like it.

So this is the recipe: you take all the samples from The Procussions song “Little People” and you ask Stro to flip it, then you contact former Rawkus pal Naledge and ask him to write to it, then you take a throw back verse from Stro and a remix version of my verse from my new single “W.A.N.T.S.” (off my new album “Friends Enemies Apples Apples”) and bam! There ya go- W.A.N.T.S./ Little People REMIX! Umm and for FREE! Please grab a hold of it- and spread it around!

Guess what else is spreading around? The WORD of my “Friends Enemies Apples Apples”. Just got a great review from URB magazine! 4 out of 5 stars! This is the 3rd reviewe to give this album 4 out of 5 stars. Shout to potholesinmyblog.com for giving it 4.5, word. There have only been a handful of press peeps who have been willing to review my album on their own time. Side note: I got fed up with trying to make people listen to my album just to get a review from an overwhelmed intern who basically hated their job. I’m like, YO- It costs money to send these albums to you! Listen at least! Its your job- right? Isn’t this why you work for a magazine, to expose and discover new music? No?- Wait- its so you can get advertising revenue from people like “Pizza Hut” and “Net Flicks”? –ok. BUT guess what???? Some people actually care about their jobs. All over the world this is happening. Tucked away in a corner somewhere there is someone who still remembers why they do what they do and from what part of their ambition they do it from! SO YES! THANK YOU! Check out the review- I’m embarrassed to say I’m proud- because I know 4 out of 5 stars for this album might be 1 out of 10 for the next- and It is a mistake to rely on media for my esteem. Yep! www.potholesinmyblog.com and I are working together to give you my single “Brutus” off the RE-release of my new album “Friends Enemies Apples Apples”. Basically I released this album earlier this year in a HUGE rush to pay rent. Yep, that’s the truth. About 30k or more illegal downloads of my album the first month it mysteriously leaked- ummmm, thanks? but eh-YO! to the people who have supported THANK YOU! Got back a couple days ago- had to do some spring cleaning. Look what I found- A whole mess of Procussions T-Shrits (Inc. our FIRST design- in a ton of colors) some Vinyls (Inc. “Five Sparrows For 2 Cents” FULL album “As Iron Sharpens Iron” FULL album- ON WAX!- some exclusives as well- ON WAX!), my LAST 2 boxes of “of gods and girls” CD’s- (YES I PERSONALLY WILL HAVE NO MORE HARD COPIES AFTER THESE BOXES ARE SOLD) and some other merchandise that never had a chance to sell. Hmmmmm, my brain is turning trying to figure out what to do with all of it. There’s not much- there’s just enough to come up with a plan- hmmm. Just a quick update- a video clip of Hocus Pocus and I performing a live version of “Hip Hop” and some pictures from the last show. I was invited to perform at their in-store performance which included some autograph signing- you can see me pretending to be famous and use to it. Also a few pics from my travels…WORD!
